Norfolk Freemasons were pleased to visit East Tuddenham Youth Football Club, where a recent donation has helped support the club’s growing activities. I attended alongside Richard Garwood, Provincial Grand Charity Steward, and Craig Humphrey, Community Engagement Ambassador, to see the teams in action.
It was an excellent morning of grassroots football. The U8 Lions faced Dereham Saints in a closely contested match, with only a single goal separating the sides. Both teams played with real spirit and determination in what was a fine example of youth football at its best.
The U8 Tigers experienced a different challenge, playing in a 7 vs 7 format against lower-level U9 opposition. With much of the game spent in the attacking half, the team showed confidence in possession and some well-worked passages of play, linking up effectively and moving the ball intelligently. It was a valuable learning opportunity as well as a strong performance.
East Tuddenham Youth FC was only established in September and already has three teams and a mini kickers summer programme, with over 20 children taking part. Chairman Chris Munro explained that the club was founded to give children the opportunity to develop as part of a team — learning discipline, resilience and cooperation, while enjoying the game.
The club has also secured support from the Football Foundation to improve and maintain the quality of its three grass pitches over the next six years, ensuring they remain safe and match-ready.
Support from local organisations, including the Freemasons, has helped provide equipment, kit and training resources. It was encouraging to see parents, volunteers and young players all contributing to something that clearly matters to the community and thoroughly enjoying themselves at the same time.
Service beyond the lodge room has always formed part of Freemasonry’s wider purpose, and it is heartening to see that tradition continuing to support projects which benefit, in real terms, communities like East Tuddenham.
